Later in the game they're really awesome to have, I have islands that consume up to have a balance sheet. Raise Taxes, not all of your people will go up a tier, if you're not expanding your settlement, raise the taxes to yellow thats still pretty damn safe.

Or what most people are afraid to do, decentralize. Go on another island, build another settlement, make it your main, build few factories there just houses and ship everything to the island. The his best if you're a tycoon since industries totally shit up eco balance. But you do lose your offensive capabilities since you get cargo ships instead of military ships.

I will say that the balance is must easier to maintain and appears more realistic to work with than in Great improvement on the game in my opinion. I just finished my 20 hours game where I had both, so I can't really say anything about eco balance for the tycoons since Ecos have so much better buildings. You can also buy items that increase eco balance and take up a slot from factions, they expire after a time, later you can produce them yourself via Techs.
